Mary Carolyn Gore Quinn, 91, passed away at her home on Wednesday, November 1. She is now rejoicing in the presence of Jesus, her Lord and Savior.
Mary was born on October 30, 1932 to James Walter and Hattie Bell Gore in the Beulah Community of Albertville, Alabama. She graduated from Albertville High School, where she was Homecoming Queen. Mary also graduated from Sneed Community College and Alabama Polytechnic Institute (Auburn University). Graduating with a degree in Home Economics, Mary taught in Athens and then for the Home Demonstration and 4-H Clubs for the US Department of Agriculture’s Cooperative Extension Service in Hartselle, Alabama. On the steps of First Baptist Church, Mary met the love of her life, Charles Jackson Quinn. Their marriage of 66 years was filled with love, faith, laughter, and service to their church family, friends and neighbors.
After raising their four children, Mary got a Masters in Special Education and taught at Hartselle Junior High School. She taught a Ladies’ Sunday School Class at First Baptist for many years and cherished studying and sharing God’s Word. Loved by all who knew her, her gifts were listening, caring, encouraging, and praying for her family and friends. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, cooking, traveling, and visiting those in need. Her greatest joy was her 12 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Jackson Quinn; parents, Walter and Hattie Gore; siblings: Harley Gore, Maurene Nix, Bunt Studdard, Ras Gore, Ed Gore, and James Gore. She is survived by her children: Beth Brown (Tom), Kent Quinn (Teresa), Beverly Moore, and Leigh Moseman (David); grandchildren: Ashley Leverette (Brandon), Clay Brown (Hannah), Kelly Leaf (Gaven), Emily Moore (Quenton), Adam Quinn (Alexandra), David Quinn (Dawna), Jacob Quinn (Hope), Marianne Morgan (Jeremy), Jeffrey Moore, Jackson Moore (Emily), Katherine Moseman, Carolyn Moseman; great-grandchildren, Cole Leverette, Case Leverette, Ella Leverette, Liam Brown, Luci Leaf, Leah Morgan, Riley Morgan and Olivia Morgan; siblings: Wayne Gore, Betty Branum, Frances Todd and Marjorie Black.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 8th at First Baptist Church, Hartselle, with her son, Kent Quinn, officiating and her children and grandchildren celebrating a life well-lived. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, her family is requesting donations be made to The Gideons International because of Mary’s love for God’s Holy Word and the message of salvation through Jesus Christ.
