Jean McCutcheon Turney, age 86, of Cotaco, Alabama, passed away on September 4, 2026. Born in her family home in Cotaco, Alabama on March 21,1940, to the late Quel Benson and Willie Pearl Owen McCutcheon. Jeannie was a lifelong resident of the Cotaco community and attended Cotaco School and later went to business school.

Jeannie was a woman of diverse talents and passions, she enjoyed a varied career as a loan officer, interior decorator and entrepreneur, owning and operating several local businesses throughout her life. She had 3 restaurants over her career and if you were ever around her, she was going to try to feed you. Jeannie loved music and was a talented performer from an early age singing on regional radio and television. She performed in her adult life and wrote as well as sang music. She found great joy in singing and cooking and was deeply dedicated to her faith and to Cotaco Methodist Church. She was known for her love and caring for those in her community.

She was preceded in death by her brother, John Dale McCutcheon, and her son, Steven Tyrus Turney.

She is survived by her daughter, Rhonda Jeannine Turney McCormick (David) of Kimberly, AL; her sister, Margaret Ann Wright of Collersville, TN; her brother, Dennis Boyce McCutcheon (Robin) of Athens, AL; two grandchildren, Magnolia Aven McCormick Gaur (Chandra) of Deli, India and Brennan A. McCormick of Birmingham, AL; and two great-grandchildren, Kannin R. Guar and Neel E. Gaur.

A visitation and celebration of life will be held on September 19, 2026, at Cotaco Methodist Church in Sommerville, AL, starting with visitation with the family at 4:00pm and the Celebration of Life service to follow at 5:00pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Cotaco Methodist Church in honor of Jeannie’s devotion to her church family and community.
