Vann Wray age 76 of Somerville kicked his shoes off on September 11, 2026, where the dirt road ended and ran the rest of the way into glory, into the arms of his Saviour and King Jesus Christ.
He was born on September 3, 1950, in Morgan County to Grady and Gertrude Dunn Wray. He graduated from Cotaco High School in Somerville and went on to earn a college degree in welding at Calhoun Technical School. He then passionately continued his lifelong career in the welding field as a pipe fitter, welder, and weld inspector, until retirement.
Brother Vann was a member of Welcome Baptist Church in Baileyton, Al and had a passion for saving lives. He was a bi vocational preacher and loved to tell others of what God had done for him and he served the Lord. He pastored many churches but was also able to witness and lead many to Christ through his testimony and his life as a Christian man. He loved his family and friends immensely and loved spending time with them, yet he lived a simple life that he would not change for anything.
He enjoyed tinkering on many different projects in his spare time from remodeling houses to flip, building barns and shops, and working on his farm. He had a gift of envisioning a project that started as filth and rags and yet knowing when he was done with it, it was going to be a majestic work of art, much like Vann is seeing today as he enjoys the splendors of heaven.
Brother Vann has arrived at a Celebration gathering in heaven with his parents – Grady and Gertrude, wife of 42 years- Joan Holcomb Wray, sister Martha Gravatt (Frank), brothers W.D Wray (Judy), McCoy Wray (Janie), and Whitt Wray.
Also in attendance are many other family members and friends who have already arrived to welcome him home and show him around.
