Terry O’Neal Jeffers
After 88 years of a life filled with hard work, love, laughter, and more than a few adventures, Terry O’Neal Jeffers went home peacefully from his home with his loving wife of 51 years by his side.
Terry was born February 18, 1938, in Kincaid, West Virginia, to John and Sarah Jeffers. He was a hardworking man who spent his life doing what he knew best—working with his hands, providing for his family, fixing what needed fixing, and never being afraid of hard work. As a machinist and mechanic, there seemed to be very little he could not figure out how to repair.
For 51 years, Terry was blessed to be a husband to Marlin Jeffers. Their years together were filled with ordinary days that became extraordinary simply because they shared them. She spoiled him, cared for him, worried over him, laughed with him, and loved him with all that she had. He was her person, and she was his.
Terry was a private and quiet man. He never needed to be the center of attention and never cared much for large crowds or big events. He was happiest in the simple moments—with his family, watching his westerns, working on something, or simply sitting together.
And if you knew Terry, you knew that underneath his quiet nature was a tremendous amount of love.
He wasn't always a man of many words, but he had a way of saying everything with a hug. Terry gave real hugs—the kind that wrapped you up and made you feel safe and loved without him ever having to say a word.
Terry loved gadgets and gizmos, his family, and a good game of pool. Some of his favorite games were played alongside his brother, Patrick Jeffers. The pool table was more than a place to play—it became a place where brothers could spend time together, tease each other, laugh, compete, and make the kind of family memories that last long after the game is over. Those moments between Terry and Patrick are memories their family will treasure.
Terry faced difficult things in his lifetime, including cancer, but he fought through it. He was stubborn in the best possible way—apparently, even cancer wasn't going to tell Terry Jeffers what to do.
Above all, Terry was a family man. He leaves behind his children, Gary Jeffers (Linda), Carrie Calligan (Joe), Tina Smith, Cynthia King (Charles), and Amanda Jeffers, and was preceded in death by his son, Jason Jeffers (Crystal).
He was blessed with grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren who brought him tremendous pride and joy. A special place in his heart was held for his grandson, Gary Jeffers Jr., and his wife, Ashley, and his great-grandson, Chance Jeffers. The love they shared with Terry and the memories they made together will always be treasured.
Terry didn't need a room full of people to make an impact. He made his mark quietly and personally—with a hug, a story, a helping hand, something repaired with his own two hands, a game of pool, or simply by being there when someone needed him.
He lived a long and meaningful life, but for those of us who loved him, 88 years will never seem like enough.
Terry worked hard.
He loved deeply. He fought hard.
And he gave his family a lifetime of memories to carry forward.
Rest easy, T.O.
You were deeply loved, and you always will be.
