Shirley Anne Seibert (née Myatt), 84, passed away on June 26, 2026. She was the heart of her family—a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, and former business owner whose warmth, generosity, and unwavering love shaped generations. She never met a stranger and had a remarkable gift for making everyone who walked through her door feel like family.

A Love Story and a Growing Family

Shirley was born on July 3, 1941, in Lyles, Tennessee, to Carl Hooper Myatt and Betty Pearl Neely Myatt. Her family later moved to Michigan, where her father co-owned a welding shop alongside the uncle of a young man named Lynn Seibert. The first time Lynn laid eyes on Shirley, he confidently declared that he was going to marry her. Shirley insisted he was mistaken, but before long, she happily proved herself wrong. On Christmas Eve in 1955, the pair eloped to Iuka, Mississippi—the go-to destination for young couples who didn't want to wait for parental permission. It marked the beginning of a beautiful marriage that lasted forty years, until Lynn's passing in 1995.

In 1957, they welcomed their first daughter, Cindy, and soon after, their second daughter, Susie. When Susie arrived with enough personality and energy for several children, Shirley and Lynn happily decided their family was perfectly complete.

Hard Work and Lasting Memories

Shirley had a gift for both business and caring for others. Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, she worked as a beautician, a profession that suited her well because she always took pride in looking her best.

During the 1980s and 1990s, she became a beloved fixture in the community as the owner of Shirley's Grocery in Flint City, Alabama. The store's deli became known for its burgers, fries, and fried chicken, but to her grandchildren it was something even more special. It was where she taught them to run a cash register, spoiled them with Mountain Dew, and created countless memories that would last a lifetime.

Later in life, she devoted herself to caring for the elderly through private caregiving, offering the same compassion she had always shown her own family.

The Matriarch's Legacy

To her grandchildren, Shirley was a source of endless comfort, laughter, and unconditional love. She taught them to read, made waffles whenever they asked, let them play dress-up in her jewelry, and could invent unforgettable bedtime stories on the spot.

One family favorite was "The Brown Spot," a story she created for her grandson Jonathan about the stubborn brown circle on the ceiling left by an old roof leak—a spot Lynn painted over countless times but could never quite make disappear.

Her home was often filled with music as she danced around the living room, and her family will forever cherish the simple moments: sitting beside her on the porch swing while she sang "Just a Swinging," watching Dr. Phil and the evening news together, receiving her famous head and back scratches, and knowing she was always there to help with life's biggest moments—whether fixing a wedding dress, styling hair, or simply offering encouragement.

Her greatest joy was her family. She delighted in becoming a great-great-grandmother and proudly accepted the title of "Very Great Grandma," lovingly given to her by her great-great-granddaughter Riley.

Though her absence leaves an immeasurable void, her family will honor the wish she expressed throughout her life: to remain close, care for one another, and keep the family together. That legacy of love will continue through every generation that follows.
