Funeral service for Melonea Chavez, 62, will be Friday, July 31, 2026 at 11:00 AM at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, July 31, 2026 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Peck Funeral Home.

Mrs. Chavez  died on Tuesday, July 28, 2026 at Huntsville Hospital.  She was born August 28, 1963, in Morgan County,  to John Brock Austin and Laura Jean Poole Austin.

She was a Sales person for Austin Furniture, and was an Artist and loved to draw. Melonea was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved her family and and her animals.

Preceding her in death were her parents, a brother- Joseph F. Austin, and a sister- Kathy Jean Austin Warren.

She is survived by:

Husband - Ramon Chavez

Sons - James Kenneth Harton and Joseph Harton

Daughter - Ashley Mashburn (Joshua)

Brother - John T. Austin

Sisters - Vickie Austin and Angelia Kirkham

Four Grandchildren

Pallberers will be Dawson Chalus, John T. Austin, Chad McLemore, Joshua Mashburn, Jacob Phillips and Philly Manuel
