LeRoy James LaCost was born in November 1938 to LeRoy Charles and Katherine Mary (Jepsen) LaCost in Bradley, Illinois. He grew up around Kankakee and attended Kankakee High School, graduating in 1957. He attended pharmacy school in Kansas City, Kansas before moving back to Kankakee and working at the Joliet Armory and going into business with his father as "LaCost Construction". In 1965, he married Barbara Yates and together they raised their four children. He was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Kankakee, IL. In 1985, they adventured to Baton Rouge, Louisiana to live and work and then in 1992 they moved to Lincoln, Nebraska to spend the next 31 years living and working in their community. LeRoy created "Homecare of Lincoln" to remodel homes and small businesses. LeRoy retired in 2023 and moved to Decatur, Alabama with his wife to enjoy spending time in his workshop and watching the wildlife.
He enjoyed his family the most, watching them grow and become successful and have families of their own. He enjoyed driving around in his El Camino cars, shooting at the range, singing country western songs and attending shows at the Grand Ole Opry. He loved being part of the St. Paul's Church community where he was a vestry member, a youth group leader and member of the choir. He enjoyed attending the University of Nebraska Lincoln football games and was a season ticket holder. He enjoyed traveling all over the world and within the US accompanying his wife or visiting family. He was a lifelong Mason.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Barbara Ann (Yates) LaCost, his daughters Renee Doyle (Mike), Cheryl LaCost and Amy LaCost (Doug Hepler), daughter-in-law Trish Randall, grandchildren Jennifer Doyle, Ryan Doyle (Emily) and Caitlin Doyle, Kira Steinberg (Rae), Mica Barrett, Ann-Marie Hepler, Dayna Hepler, Kayla Hepler, Sean Hepler, Arthur Hepler and Karissa Randall (Obie), Great grandchildren Reese and Daphne Doyle and Hunter, Adelynn and Skylar Randall-Kinney. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters Donald LaCost, Larry LaCost, Debra Caron and Carolyn Fairfield, all of the Kankakee, IL area. He was preceded in death by his son, David LaCost, his parents, LeRoy and Katherine LaCost, his brother Sherman and his sister Nancy Pepin.
He will be interred at the St. Paul's Episcopal Church columbarium in Kankakee at a future date to be determined.
