Judy Laine Luker Vernon passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her children on Saturday September 12, 2026. She was born in Lawrence County, AL on April 17, 1946, to Harry William Luker and Mary Lillian York Luker. Visitation will be at Peck Funeral Home on Wednesday, Sep 16, 2026, from 9:00a.m. – 11:00 a.m. followed by the funeral at the funeral home at 11:00 am with Bro. Nick Harville officiating. She will be buried at Piney Grove Methodist Church following.

Judy is survived by her daughters; Tracey Wiggins (Mark) and Lori Davenport (Perry), two grandchildren; Cody Beringause and Jordan Stevenson (Sam), brother; Gary Luker (Cathie), sisters; Phyllis Todd and Sherry Luker.

She was preceded in death by her father and her mother, three brothers; Edward Luker, Drennon Luker and Gerald Luker; four Sisters, Sue Woods, Gail Harville, Jean Hayes and Evelyn Kerce.

Judy was a graduate of Speake High School in 1964. She retired from General Motors in Decatur in her late 50s after a 25+ year career there. After retirement she enjoyed working on her farm. She built a beautiful home on land in Piney Grove where she grew up. She became a farmer after retirement. She had 30 acres of land that she took care of. She enjoyed working at her home, in her garden, on her land and taking care of her cows. Her other passions in life were softball and furniture. If you knew her, you knew that. In her younger years, she was on the softball field every weekend. She was truly a legend around here. After softball ended, she was in a furniture store every weekend. She loved buying furniture for her house, her kid’s houses and any friend or family member that was looking for something. Judy had a heart of gold. She would help anybody that needed it whether it was taking them food or mowing their grass for them. She was a wonderful Mother and JuJu. 

She worked hard her entire life, so her family never had to go without anything. She had to be the mother and the father because their dad passed away at a very young age. Her Children want her to be remembered for that, that she did everything for them. She loved her family and most importantly, she loved God. Judy fought a long hard battle with Parkinson’s Disease, but we know without a doubt in our hearts that she is at peace now. 

A special thanks to Aveanna Hospice of Decatur and all of Mom’s caretakers that took excellent care of her over the past few years.

Pallbearers will be Perry Davenport, Cody Beringause, Mark Wiggins, Sam Stevenson, Greg Curtis and Kevin Harville
