Funeral service for Evelyn Maples Motes , 91, will be Friday, July 25, 2025,  at 3:00 PM at New Center Baptist Church with Bro. Ben Bates officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial will be in New Center Cemetery.  Visitation will be Friday, July 25, 2025,  from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at New Center Baptist Church.

Mrs. Motes passed away on Tuesday, July 22, 2025.  She was born January 31, 1934, in Morgan County,  to Buford Carroll Maples and Clara Lee Spears Maples .  She was a graduate of the Class of 1952 from Decatur High School and was an example of a fine Christian lady, who loved her family and always encouraged them to do anything they set out to do. She went with them all for years as they traveled to sing Gospel music as a group. She was an avid gardener, and enjoyed quilting, sewing, cooking, writing poetry and was a good artist.

Her husband, Fred Motes, Sr., her parents,  and her brothers- Lewis and Billy Don Maples, preceded her in death.

Survivors include:

Sons - Fred W. Motes, Jr. (Rhonda) and
Mike Motes,

Daughters - Deborah Javon Alldredge (Nathan),
Kay Widener (Mike), and
Roxanne M. Tucker (Darren),

Sister - Linda Jo Bomar,

Ten Grandchildren and

Eleven Great Grandchildren

Pallbearers will be Jarrod Alldredge, Brandon Motes, Kindred Motes, Johndale Motes, Ryan Kretzer, Joel Suarez and Gage Crowder.

A Special "Thank You" is expressed to Mrs. Rosena Chunn. She has been the best caregiver, friend and partner-in-crime, to our mother for the past 8 years.
