A visitation for Bruce Christopher Bazzel will be Monday, August 31, 2026, from 10:00am-12:00pm at Decatur Baptist Church with his funeral service celebrating his life at 12:00 PM. Benny Sivley and Joe McKaig will be officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial will follow the service at Roselawn Garden of Memory.

Bruce Christopher “Chris” Bazzel, age 68, passed away surrounded by family and friends at his home on August 26, 2026. Born in Decatur in 1958 to Bruce Mitchell Bazzel and Dorothy Sue Bazzel, Chris graduated from Austin High School and attended Auburn University. Chris served his career at Boeing and United Launch Alliance where he worked on the ULA ICPS upper stage that flew on NASA Artemis, Delta 2, Delta 4, Atlas 5, Centaur, Boeing Large Cargo Freighter and the Laser Tracker for the International Space Station.

Faith and family were the driving force of Chris’s life. He married his beloved wife, Myra Sanders Bazzel in 1983. They had three children, Matthew, Mae, and Hannah. Chris was a wonderful father and grandfather to his five grandchildren. Chris was a member of Decatur Baptist Church where he attended since age 13. He served in several ministries including Shepherd’s class, Youth Ministry and was a Deacon.

In his life, Chris enjoyed being outside, coaching and playing sports with his children, duck hunting, studying God’s word, fishing, and cheering on the Braves and Auburn Tigers.

Chris courageously fought ALS for over 17 years. His wife Myra was his devoted caregiver and best friend. Together, they used ALS to shine the light of Jesus Christ through everyone they encountered. Chris spent his entire life encouraging and investing in others. He was a true and faithful friend.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years Myra Sanders Bazzel; son Matthew Brian Bazzel (Kelsey); two daughters Maegan Bazzel Adams (Josh) and Hannah Katherine Bazzel; five grandchildren Eleanor Drew Adams, Edmund Bruce Bazzel, Vivan Capri Adams, Samuel Scott Bazzel, and Charles Matthew Bazzel; sister Michele Eloise Bazzel; ; Brother-in- Law Larry Ray Sanders (Barbara); several nephews, a niece and mother -in-law Mary Lou Sanders. His parents, Bruce Mitchell and Dorothy Sue Bazzel; father-in-law, W. R. Sanders preceded him in death.

Chris will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew and loved him.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests honoring Chris’s memory through contributions to Decatur Baptist Church Mission Fund, The Huntsville ALS Clinic (Crestwood Hospital), and Hospice of North Alabama.
