Visitation will be from 2:00pm until 3:00pm Monday afternoon at the funeral home.
Ms. Battles, who was born August 27, 1933 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Willie Mae Evans and Oma Lee Shipp Evans, died on Friday, October 12, 2026, at Decatur Morgan Hospital.
Ms. Battles, affectionately known as "Grandma" to many more than her own grandchildren, was a kind, gracious, unselfish lady. She was not afraid of hard work and always wanted to help others. She was resilient and as her health declined, she figured out how to remain independent for a long time. Even in her final illness she talked sweetly to all who helped her, thanking them multiple times. She always asked about everyone else and never complained. She was loved for speaking her mind and had lots of funny stories to share. She had many sayings. "There is a song about everything." Recently, she said "It's all in the Lord's hands" many times. And before hanging up the phone, she often said, "May the Lord bless you and keep you."
She absolutely adored her family and extended family. She was so proud of her grandchildren and great grandchildren, always telling everyone about them. Even though her nieces and nephews lived far away, she kept up with them and loved to get pictures and hear how everyone was. She was especially thrilled when her niece Pattie would fly to Alabama to visit. It kept her feeling close to her sister that they were both missing so much. She considered the family of in-laws as her own family. She was a long-time member of East Highland Baptist Church. She made many good friends there that she has now joined in heaven.
She was preceded in death by a son; Robert Steven Battles, and a sister, Barbara Jean Bale.
