Mrs. McElfresh died on Friday, May 3, 2019 at  her residence.  She was born December 17, 1940, in Hampden County, Massachusetts,  to Theodore Ernest Paul and Constance Viola Hare Paul. She was Lutheran in her faith. Preceding her in death were her parents and her husband: Walter McElfresh, and two brothers: Peter Paul in Arkansas and Ernest T. Paul, Sr. in Florida.

A considerate, compassionate and loving woman, Joy loved animals and was a helper of people wherever she lived. As a teenager in Massachusetts, Joy was in the Civil Air Patrol. She served in leadership roles though her school years and was active with choir and youth groups at church. Joy loved roller skating, bowling, needlework, and gardening. Often, she sewed clothing for her children, Gene and Linda Ann and her sister, Donna. Her family grew with her husband  Walter’s children: Linda Jo, Barbie, Patti and Jeff. As a young mother, she usually spent weekends taking her children to New Jersey’s beaches. She continued this love of sunshine and sand when she moved to the Gulf Coast many years later. Joy worked with Hartford Insurance for many years sometimes at the site of various natural disasters. In South Alabama, Joy led food ministries and enjoyed beach and ocean time with her growing family. Joy was a faithful servant of Christ throughout her life. That was a huge blessing for all.
