Funeral service for Joe W. Sparkman, 73, will be Saturday, August 5, 2017 at 1:30 PM at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dr. Susan Parker and Rev. Jimmy Legg officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial will be in Moss Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday, August 5, 2017 from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM at Peck Funeral Home.
Mr. Sparkman died on Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at Decatur Morgan Hospital. He was born July 14, 1944, in Morgan County to Pervis Almon Sparkman and Willie "Billie" Cochran Sparkman. He was a member of Moss Chapel Church and was preceded in death by his parents and a sister: Nancy Sparkman Duncan. He received a football scholarship to Jacksonville State University. After a football injury he transferred to Athens State College and received a Bachelor's of Arts degree and afterward received a Master's Degree in Education from Middle Tennessee State University. He was retired after 25 years working with the Hartselle City School System and also for the Morgan County Schools. He was an Assistant Football Coach and also coached for the wrestling team. In addition to coaching, he also taught Social Studies at the Hartselle Junior High School.
